Ultrasonic testing of rail welds.

Your Solution

The tandem rig TMRW-1 enables the detection of flaws perpendicular to the rail surface, e.g. lack of fusion and porosity across the whole height of the weld with high sensitivity and reproducibility.

 

The tandem rig contains probe holders for two 45° angle beam probes, which can be moved in opposite directions. One is operated as transmitter and the other as receiver probe.

 

The position of the probes can be changed simultaneously by means of rotary knobs: When the probes are positioned close together in the center of the rig, the root of the rail weld is being tested. By expanding the distance between the probes the whole height of the weld is scanned from the bottom to the top of the rail.

 

The tandem rig contains four magnets, which fix the rig during the tandem test.

 

 

In order to position the probes exactly on the center line of the rail, the rig provides an adjustable edge guide. Thus it can be applied on rails with different railhead dimensions.

 

The TMRW-1 can be operated with different portable UT instruments, for example together with the TFD806C.

 

For the range and sensitivity setting of the ultrasonic instrument we recommend the use of the calibration block K1.
